Primary Care Specialties
Internal Medicine
Internal medicine is the branch and specialty of medicine concerning the diagnosis and non surgical treatment of diseases in adults, especially of internal organs. Doctors of internal medicine, also called "internists," are often referred to as the "doctor's doctor" because they are often called upon to act as consultants to other physicians to help solve puzzling diagnostic problems. Internal medicine doctors treat the whole person, not just internal organs.Medical rotation schedule
One of the personal touches that the UMMC program offers is the way our residents are scheduled. Done with each individual resident’s interests in mind, our chief residents still make out the master schedule by hand every year. While our program has looked at a number of automated databases, we feel that the best fit for the program we want to foster is a hand-made schedule. Our chiefs take into account what each individual resident wishes to pursue long-term, and while they can’t guarantee a specific rotation at a specific time, they do their best to ensure a tailored schedule that fits the personality and desires of each resident.
